The Most Enduring Trust is Earned

Trust is part of every relationship, including the relationship you have with yourself. Over time, behavior patterns tell us what to expect from ourselves and others. Paying attention to those patterns can help us better understand the difference between trusting someone and whether that person has earned our trust.

This month, Build Better Relationships looks at trust, trustworthiness, and transparency across different parts of life: your relationship with yourself, your relationships with others, and the people you work with. We also prepare for Thanksgiving and the relationships, expectations, and familiar patterns that can come with spending time with family and friends.

Trust the pattern. Pay attention to what people consistently do, including you. Those patterns can give you valuable information about the relationships you are building.

Your Pattern Has Information for You

Self-trust develops through the patterns in your own behavior. When you pay attention to the relationship between what you promise yourself and what you actually do, you gain information that can help you become more trustworthy in your relationship with yourself.

Do You Believe Your Own Eyes?

Trust develops through patterns. Repeated behavior gives you information about what you can reasonably expect from someone, while trustworthiness tells you whether their behavior has given you enough reason to rely on them. Learning to trust the pattern can make relationships easier to understand.

When Information Is Missing, Someone Fills in the Blanks

Transparency at work does not mean telling employees everything. Managers build trust by communicating what is known, acknowledging what remains unknown, and following through when they promise to provide more information.

Dynamic Leadership Builds Trust

Today’s leader is up against a dynamic environment.

Because of remote and hybrid work, employees need a different leader, and that means you need to show up and lead differently. There is a disparity between the demand for effective leadership and an individual who possesses the necessary leadership skills. Filling this gap is key to finding success across the organization and in your career.

Filling the Leadership Gap provides insights and practical strategies to elevate your leadership presence, helping you acquire new skills and enhance your leadership toolbox for the next level.
